Immanuel Witschi grew up musically in Zurich: nine years of classical piano lessons, a member of the Zurich Boys’ Choir—and his early exposure to jazz would stay with him for life. He joined the Bernhard Spirig Big Band, performed in concerts throughout Switzerland and France for seven years, and furthered his training as a member of the University of Zurich Big Band, as well as through bebop workshops and private lessons with K.T. Geier, Stefan Stahel, Vince Benedetti, and Marco Dreyfuss. In 2000, he participated in the renowned Generations Masterclass in Frauenfeld.

Starting in 2004, he worked as a pianist and technician at the Theater Johana in Zurich and appeared in various productions at the Salon-Theater Herzbaracke. In 2009, he gave his first fully improvised solo concert; thereafter, he performed weekly as a pianist at the Zurich bar L’heure bleue for several years. As a sought-after sideman, he has participated in numerous projects—including Rebecca & The Sophistocats and Becky & The Gents, as well as accompanying Tanya Birri and the Etta James Project. Regular engagements have taken him to festivals and hotel resorts such as Davos Sounds Good and Hauser’s Terrasse in St. Moritz, as well as to the Hotel Bella Tola in Valais, where he has been a guest every year since 2019.

Since 2011, Immanuel Witschi has been giving regular solo concerts and has released his first solo CD, *First Light*. At the heart of his work is ambient jazz: music that thrives on improvisation as its central concept—atmospheric, unpredictable, and always in motion. He also performs with his own groups, most notably the Immanuel Witschi Jazz Trio.
